Punjab may allow Basant 2027 outside Lahore, but nothing is confirmed yet. On 21 October 2026, Geo News and Minute Mirror reported, citing unnamed sources, that the Punjab government plans to allow Basant across the province in the second week of March 2027. Pakistan Today reported the same plan. No official notification has been issued, and no city outside Lahore has been named. We will update this page when that changes.

  • Official status outside Lahore: not announced yet.
  • Cities allowed: not announced yet. No district outside Lahore has been named.
  • Reported timing: the second week of March 2027.
  • Reported plans: a new Basant law, controls on kite and string prices, and designated kite making sites.
  • Lahore: confirmed, see our Basant 2027 dates guide.

Can I fly kites in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad or Multan for Basant 2027?

Not yet. Kite flying is banned across Punjab under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025. A district can allow it only through a notification from its deputy commissioner, with prior government approval, for named days and places. So far only Lahore has one.

Until your district is notified, flying a kite there is an offence, carrying three to five years' imprisonment, a Rs 2 million fine, or both. That applies to Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot and every other district outside Lahore.

What the province-wide plan reportedly includes

Minute Mirror and Geo News reported these measures, citing unnamed sources. None has been published officially:

  • Basant across Punjab in the second week of March 2027.
  • A Basant law, with the safety measures and kite flying rules written into it.
  • A strategy to control kite and string prices. No price caps have been announced.
  • Kite making allowed only at designated locations, which have not been named.

Pakistan Today's report covers the province-wide plan but not the price controls or the law.

What is still not announced

  • Which cities and districts are allowed.
  • The dates for each district.
  • Prohibited zones in each district.
  • The text of the new Basant law.
  • Any price caps on kites and string.
  • How kite makers and sellers outside Lahore will register.

What already applies everywhere in Punjab

The kite flying law already bans metallic wire, nylon cord and string coated with glass or other sharp substances across the province. Wherever Basant is allowed, expect the same baseline as Lahore: approved kite sizes and cotton string only.

Lahore, the one confirmed case

Lahore's Basant is approved for 12 to 14 March 2027, the Express Tribune reported; the full schedule is in our Basant 2027 dates and rules guide, and how it was set is in our report on the Lahore notification. For who registers and how, see our Basant portal registration guide. bugo.pk also lists Basant 2027 kite packages in Lahore.
